I have noticed that the stamps of Alwar, Bundi and Nawanagar bear the symbol of a dagger or knife. What is the symbolic meaning of the dagger on the stamps of Indian princely states?

    • Michael says:

      Hi Ronald
      Welcome to DCStamps
The dagger on the stamps is known as a Kandjar. The dagger was of a unique design from this region, when squeezed, the blades would open like scissors inside it’s victim. Daggers such as the Kandjar were warn as ceremonial pieces across much of this part of the world, including Turkey, Persia and Islamic India. I am sure there is a rich and detailed history on the knives, but I haven’t studied it.

Some time to add the period of dc

    • Michael says:

      Hi Ali
Welcome to DC Stamps. Not sure what you mean by “period of dc”.
However, if you mean dates, I feature countries which existed between the years 1840 and ceased to exist before 1960. They also should have issued postage stamps (although this is not quite true, as I feature some countries which issued stamp like propaganda pieces), such as Provisional or revolutionary entities.
I hope this is what you were looking for.
      Regards
      Michael
